Superstitions

This Post was created on 13th Oct -- Friday the thirteenth.. But time permits me to put this only today : ( (After more than a month!!!! )

FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH

Well, for all superstitious people, today is a day they'll end up dreading.

I've seen the Cricket Umpire Dave Shepard do a sort of jig when the score reached 111 or 222 or 333 and the jig is much funnier if the score was 111/1 or 222/2 or 333/3, be it a test match or a one-day match.

Mom comes back one day earlier/later coz of the reason that one should not return home on the 9th day of leaving.

Superstitions are not CASTE based but are definitely GENDER BASED.
Eg:
For females, If the right palm itches, it is a sign of bad luck or rather.. more work. Similarly, if the left palm itches, it's a sign of good luck or rather.. more money. But for males... it is Vice Versa.
Again, for females, if the right eye twitches, it is bad luck but for males, if the right eye twitches, it means good luck. If the left eye twitches for a gal, it means good luck; but for guys, it means bad luck.

But if it comes to legs, if the right sole/foot itches, it is assumed that he/she is going to travel but if the left sole/foot itches, it is assumed that he/she is going to Quarrel.

he he.. how silly is that????

Coming to the most common of the superstitions.. a CAT crossing your PATH.

Some years earlier, if a cat crosses your streeth/path, it was assumed that it's bad luck and your work will not be successful. This assumption got 'relaxed' to such an extent that all the cats got a reprise except the 'BLACK CAT'. 'BLACK' is always considered inauspicious .. no matter what. Anyways, coming back to CATS.

I came to know why the incident of a CAT Crossing your PATH was considered BAD.

'MILK' was and is still considered auspicious. If milk is offered as 'Abhisheka' to any GOD, it is assumed that your wish will get fulfilled. Before you wonder what the link b/n CATS crossing the path and MILK is.. pls hold on.. A CATS favorite food is MILK.

If a CAT crossed your path, it was earlier being assumed that the CAT would have seen you leaving your house and the fear was that it would drink all the milk kept at home to offer to GOD. That was the precise reason why people used to rush back home.

Now, the basic reason is forgotten and people still rush back thinking that their work won't be successful!!!

Tell me something sillier than that! ;))

Secularism -- Majority and Minority

This post is not dedicated to anyone and is just a forwarded email which has been copied and pasted over here... and i am forced to assume that this is the truth! I had posted earlier on the same topic and here i go again! Talking abt majority and minority as a part of the comments in my previous post, i was forced to put this in points below: 1. Do you consider that - Sanskrit is communal and Urdu is secular, Mandir is Communal and Masjid is Secular, Sadhu is Communal and Imam is secular,VandeMatharam is communal and Allah-O-Akbar is secular, Shriman is communal and Mian is secular, Hinduism is Communal and Islam is Secular? 2. Why Godhra is blown out of proportion, when no-one talks of the ethnic cleansing of 4 lakh Hindus from Kashmir? 3. When Christian and Muslim schools can teach Bible and Quran, Why Hindus cannot teach Gita in our schools? 4. When Haj pilgrims are given subsidy, why Hindu pilgrims to Amarnath, Sabarimalai & Kailash Mansarovar are taxed? 5. If Muslims & C...

The Truth - "Kannada Barutha"??? Kannada barbeku!

"Kannada Barutha??", ah! I am sure most of you in Bangalore would have heard this, but what is "kannada barutha?" here it goes. Bangalore the IT capital of India , the silicon city and now a Metro city opened its gates to almost all kinds of people. Very evidently the recent poll census proved that there are only 47% of original inhabitants in Bangalore/bengaluru. The life style of the city has seen a gradual change with Pizza Corners replacing MTR's, classy eat out's replacing "Vidyarthi Bhavans" and flashy pub's replacing all our "Mahalakshmi wine shops". "Change is inevitable" from the days of BEML, HAL and BHEL to INFOSYS, WIPRO; Bangalore has a new look now on the world map. Gone are the days where a typical Sunday for any bangalorean was a nice romantic walk on the pavements of "LALBAGH...", "rave idli and coffee.." at the nearest yet old looking MTR and a wonderful Annavra film either at Santosh o...

Love or Infatuation

Infatuation is instant desire. It is one set of glands calling to another. Love, on the other hand, is friendship that has caught fire. It takes root and grows - one day at a time. Infatuation is marked by a feeling of insecurity, you are excited and eager, but not genuinely happy. There are nagging doubts, unanswered questions, little bits and pieces about your beloved that you would just as soon not examine too closely. It might spoil the dream. Love is the quiet understanding and mature acceptance of imperfection. It is real, it gives you strength and grows beyond you - to bolster your beloved. You are warned by his/her presence, even when is away. Long distances do not separate you. You want him/her near, but near or far, you know he/she is yours and you can wait. Infatuation says, "We must get married right away. I can't risk losing him/her." Love says, "Be patient, Don't Panic. He/she is yours. Plan your future with confidence." Infatuation...
