  24. ....
  25. ....
  26. ....

The list is never ending..

I started reading these kind of books from my school days where I used to rush into the library for almost 4 times a day to read a book inside the library and borrow a book every day. Read it overnight and return the book the next day to borrow another one.

I have read Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, Archies, Tinkle, Amar Chitra Katha, Jataka Tales, Panchatantra, Famous Five, Secret Seven etc.

Though I started this habit coz this was one which was as per my interests and I cultivated my interests in this coz I was unable to do anything else; This is one habit which has continued till date and hopefully, will continue with me to the grave!

Initially, I did not buy books coz of financial problems that we were undergoing those days.. so, in Mysore, it was always the library to give me books and I was unable to get membership of any public library too.. So, it was my school and college libraries. Even now, when I go there, I make it a point to visit my school library and spend some time there.

My dad told me that "Books are the best friends of a man" and the next thing that I did was beseech my school librarian to issue me two books per day! There have been a lot of funny incidents regarding my reading.. I had read so much one day that I forgot to eat. Once, I was reading with a book on my lap and had so much that I found it difficult to get up from the floor after food.

There was this duration of two years in which I studied in a not-so-good college and in those two years, I was unable to read much.. As soon as I got myself into a better college for my graduation, I started again!

If I reminisce now, it is quite amazing how freely I interacted with my librarians who used to go out of their bounds to get me a book that I wanted. And the library of the not-so-good college had librarians who themselves were not interested in any kind of books!

I also have this habit of using bookmarks.. I used to keep a small piece of paper in such a way that none noticed it even if they have read the book and I used to do this in public libraries.

So, as soon as I came to Bangalore, I was amazed by the number of books available on the road side.. and the rate at which they are available. So, I bought a few books and I still have retained them. But, I soon realized that they are pirated books and have hence, stopped buying books from roadside vendors. Now, 'm a regular visitor to Landmark, Oxford and Higginbothams.

Shelfari is a social networking website related to books.. but I was able to see so many people on shelfari who do not have any "books" and I know so many people there who do not even read any "books", but they are members of that...

What is the reason of being a member of a social networking website if you are not, in any way, making use of the network???

Thanks Ananth for pointing out about Kannada authors to me! :)

Yeah, I have read works of O Henry and even Mulk Raj Anand, but not to that extent of any of the mentioned authors! The reason is that I did not find any eye-catchy covers for the books! :)

Lemme c.. I'll continue to have the same voracious reading habits.. and will surely improve upon them!

Secularism -- Majority and Minority

This post is not dedicated to anyone and is just a forwarded email which has been copied and pasted over here... and i am forced to assume that this is the truth! I had posted earlier on the same topic and here i go again! Talking abt majority and minority as a part of the comments in my previous post, i was forced to put this in points below: 1. Do you consider that - Sanskrit is communal and Urdu is secular, Mandir is Communal and Masjid is Secular, Sadhu is Communal and Imam is secular,VandeMatharam is communal and Allah-O-Akbar is secular, Shriman is communal and Mian is secular, Hinduism is Communal and Islam is Secular? 2. Why Godhra is blown out of proportion, when no-one talks of the ethnic cleansing of 4 lakh Hindus from Kashmir? 3. When Christian and Muslim schools can teach Bible and Quran, Why Hindus cannot teach Gita in our schools? 4. When Haj pilgrims are given subsidy, why Hindu pilgrims to Amarnath, Sabarimalai & Kailash Mansarovar are taxed? 5. If Muslims & C...

The Truth - "Kannada Barutha"??? Kannada barbeku!

"Kannada Barutha??", ah! I am sure most of you in Bangalore would have heard this, but what is "kannada barutha?" here it goes. Bangalore the IT capital of India , the silicon city and now a Metro city opened its gates to almost all kinds of people. Very evidently the recent poll census proved that there are only 47% of original inhabitants in Bangalore/bengaluru. The life style of the city has seen a gradual change with Pizza Corners replacing MTR's, classy eat out's replacing "Vidyarthi Bhavans" and flashy pub's replacing all our "Mahalakshmi wine shops". "Change is inevitable" from the days of BEML, HAL and BHEL to INFOSYS, WIPRO; Bangalore has a new look now on the world map. Gone are the days where a typical Sunday for any bangalorean was a nice romantic walk on the pavements of "LALBAGH...", "rave idli and coffee.." at the nearest yet old looking MTR and a wonderful Annavra film either at Santosh o...

Love or Infatuation

Infatuation is instant desire. It is one set of glands calling to another. Love, on the other hand, is friendship that has caught fire. It takes root and grows - one day at a time. Infatuation is marked by a feeling of insecurity, you are excited and eager, but not genuinely happy. There are nagging doubts, unanswered questions, little bits and pieces about your beloved that you would just as soon not examine too closely. It might spoil the dream. Love is the quiet understanding and mature acceptance of imperfection. It is real, it gives you strength and grows beyond you - to bolster your beloved. You are warned by his/her presence, even when is away. Long distances do not separate you. You want him/her near, but near or far, you know he/she is yours and you can wait. Infatuation says, "We must get married right away. I can't risk losing him/her." Love says, "Be patient, Don't Panic. He/she is yours. Plan your future with confidence." Infatuation...
